Lisa Hillard

Course Conductor

Lisa’s technical training began at 5 years old studying Ballet,Tap, Jazz, Modern, African and Theater. Institutions she has studied at include both Queens, New York legendary studios; Bernice Johnson Cultural Arts Center and Gloria Jackson Dance Studio. Both institutions proved to offer Lisa the tools necessary for her destined success. At the age of 17, she became a teacher in one of the very studios she once was a student.

 

At the age of 18, Lisa began her professional dance career performing and touring with professional artists; some of her show/venue credits include: Grammy Awards, MTV, Radio City Music Hall, and American Music Awards to name a few. She worked as a performer for many record labels such as: Uptown Records, Mercury Records and RCA Records and Jive.

 

Since her teaching career began, Lisa has worked at some of the most successful studios in Queens, NY until Lisa decided to open her own doors (HilliArts Studio for the Performing Arts) as her goal remains constant, to make quality training available in a safe space. Lisa’s choreography is coined as "Passion With A Purpose" and has graced venues such as: McDonald's Gospe lfest (winner), and International Dance Challenge 2008 (over-all challenge champion winner). Her choreography has achieved national accolades such as Best Emotional Execution and Best Choreography. Dancers under her instruction have performed in venues such as Aaron Davis Hall (NYC), City Center (NYC), and Lincoln Center (NYC). Lisa later served as a competition judge for IDC (International Dance Challenge) until the company closed.

 

Lisa's currently in the process of completing AcroDance Certified Adjudicator Training, she recently completed American Ballet Theater's National Teacher Certification and holds certifications with Acrobatic Arts, AcroDancePreschool, Alixa Flexibility, Progressing Ballet Technique and Dance Teacher University Teacher Certification.

 

Lisa brings intelligence to her teaching environment by allowing her dancers to grow and gain voices in the classroom by-way-of educating them to understand how to take proper self inventory when it comes to identifying when corrections are needed.Higher education is also a consistent goal for Lisa; she earned her Masters Degree in Business Management in June 2010 and is now looking to complete a degree in Physical Therapy. Lisa has experienced the benefits of Alixa Flexibility's training in her own performing arts studio and is excited to share the multipal benefits with others.
